Teen Chat Interactive Session: An Assessment on POPCOM’s Adolescent Health and Youth Development Program on Female Adolescent in Mandaluyong City

The aim of the thesis is to investigate and identify the effects of Teen Chat Interactive Session to the lives of female adolescents in Mandaluyong City and to make recommendations on how to improve the program. To achieve these, different surveys were administered to Teen Chat participants and non-participants.

This study was conducted in Mandaluyong City. For the first survey, for non-participants, data was gathered from residents of Barangay Poblacion. The subjects for this study were randomly selected female adolescents living in the area. For the second survey, Teen Chat Interactive Session participants, data was gathered from random high school students using an online survey. Results from these two surveys show the importance of Reproductive Health programs, but at present only a small number of adolescents receive guidance in this matter.

The thesis identifies the usefulness of Reproductive Health programs and further describes the structure of a specific program which is Teen Chat Interactive Session. In a detailed section the thesis describes the similarities and differences between the two groups including their knowledge on reproductive health, source of information and their decision-making capacities regarding reproductive health.

In conclusion, the thesis argues that Reproductive Health programs are essential for an adolescent in empowering them regarding sex and reproductive health issues. This thesis hopes to become an instrument to let future programs reach more adolescents especially those who are not at school.
