The study explored the effects of the folk belief system particularly bayanihan (pagkakaisa, pagtutulungan and pakikipagkapwa) among the elderly in San Rafael, Barangay Mambugan to their views regarding development. Through field visits, semi-structured interview, focus group discussion and key informants, the researchers studied the evident beliefs of the said area, the effects of these beliefs to their everyday lives and looked at the implications of bayanihan in development. 15 older persons of at least 50 years of age were interviewed for the semi-structured interview and 10 of the 15 interviewees in the semi-structured interview were invited for the focus group discussion to have a deeper understanding of the respondents’ answers in the earlier interview.
