The elderly and the homosexuals are not given much priority; they do not receive the proper care and rights due to them. Many neglect their existence thinking that their sector consists of only a few thus they are not relevant in the society. Therefore, elderly gays suffer a double stigma; they are marginalized and discriminated due to their gender and status. Awareness is starting to escalate regarding the existence of elderly gays in the country. In spite of this only very few programs respond to it.
The Home for the Golden Gays is an instrument in battling the double stigma experienced by the elderly gays. The foundation serves as their venue for expression. This paper aims to find out the need to understand and respond to specific desires of elderly gays from a rights-based perspective, as well as the need for support mechanisms for vulnerable groups. Through this the community building processes and strategies of Home for the Golden Gays will be tackled. It includes the various programs, services and interventions they perform in the foundation that addresses the issues of being old and gay in the Philippines, as well as looking into how effective these programs are. Moreover, this paper would seek how the foundation affects the lives of its members and how it ensures their emotional and physical well-being.
