The Politics of Communication

This paper examines how political integration in advanced capitalist societies is maintained through communication rather than coercion alone. It introduces distorted communication—directed, arrested, and constrained—as mechanisms that limit political articulation and dissent. Drawing on sociolinguistic theory, particularly class-based language codes, the study shows how unequal communicative capacities shape political awareness, legitimacy, and participation.
